How To prepare Black Pepper-Ginger lozenges for relieving sore throat.

Having a sore throat is the most uncomfortable feeling for me, and I think most people will agree with me. We just want the pain to be gone instantly, which is why we take medications. Here is the recipe for making lozenges with all the ingredients available in the comfort of your home.

Benefits of Black Pepper-Ginger Lozenges:

  • Relieves sore throat.
  • Acts as anti-infective.
  • It also acts as an anti-bacterial.

REQUIREMENTS:

Black pepper powder (1/2 tsp), cayenne pepper powder (1/4 tsp), honey (2 tbsp), brown sugar(1/2 cup), cinnamon powder (1/4 tsp), ground ginger (1/2 tsp), Mould of Lozenges, vegetable oil for greasing purpose

PROCEDURE:

  1. Take brown sugar and honey in a pan and melt them carefully without adding water until they convert into a golden-brown color.
  2. Add black pepper, cayenne pepper, cinnamon powder, ground ginger and mix well.
  3. Now shift it into a mold (which should have been greased earlier with vegetable oil or butter) and allow it to cool.
  4. After 20-25 minutes remove from the mould. This method will produce 15-20 lozenges depending upon the size of the mold.

Individual uses of each ingredient:

Black Pepper:

Its scientific name is Piper nigrum L. It contains the active ingredient piperine. It acts as a natural decongestant, it makes the sputum thinner and watery and aids in its removal from the body. It also relieves sinus, cold, and nasal congestion. Black pepper along with honey is considered an effective therapy to reduce congestion from cough and cold.

Cayenne Pepper:

It is red in colour having the scientific name Capsicum annuum L. It is used in some herbal remedies to treat cough, cold, and congestion. Its active constituent capsaicin is thought to be effective in relieving symptoms of sneezing, stuffy nose, congestion, and postnasal drip. Capsaicin may perform this function by dilating blood vessels in the nose and throat.

Honey:

Its source is honeycombs and is produced by Apis melifera Linn. Honey produces significant antibacterial effects. It has long been used to treat sore throat and to alleviate cough. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It might produce its effects by reducing irritation and inflammation in our throats. Black pepper-ginger lozenges, it is also considered as one of the bases of the product.

Ginger:

It is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale Roscoe. It has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties that may play a role in alleviating pain and inflammation. Gingerols and shogaols are the active constituents of ginger responsible for producing medicinal properties. Ginger produces potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes and S.pyogenes is the organism responsible for causing strep throat.

Cinnamon:

is the bark of the plant Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume. Cinnamaldehyde and camphor are the major active ingredients. Cinnamon is of great importance in conditions like cold, cough, asthma, headache, and tuberculosis. It has expectorant properties which cause the mucous to be expelled out of the body.

Brown Sugar:

Brown sugar or organic sugar is packed with nutrients like calcium and iron. It has numerous health benefits such as antioxidant and immune-boosting properties and a reduction in the occurrence of cancer. In this product, brown sugar and honey are used to make the base of the lozenges.
